Baseball: FGCU opens series in Jacksonville with 7-3 win

Kicking off a three-game road trip, the Florida Gulf Coast University baseball team defeated Jacksonville 7-3 on Friday to extend its win streak to four games.

The visiting Eagles (15-20, 6-7 A-Sun) kept the momentum going against the Dolphins (12-23, 2-8 A-Sun) right from the get-go, as the bats got hot to the tune of 12 hits and seven runs. Sean Dwyer led the offense by going 2-for-4 with a two-out, three-run homer in the sixth inning.

Sophomore Ricky Knapp (5-3) lowered his ERA to 1.85 on the season, allowing one run on seven hits and striking out eight batters. Knapp has recorded 37 strikeouts and seven walks this year, and leads the team in several different pitching categories.

FGCU and JU will play the second game of the three-game series at 1 p.m. Saturday.
